Internationally known for his superb impressionist
paintings, Derric van Rensburg is rated as one of South Africa’s top
artists. Born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1952, Derric spent much of his
childhood exploring the remote Langkloof Mountains. His early explorations
triggered a lifelong love for the outdoors and wildlife. After moving to
Greyton, he was further inspired by the vistas, wheat farms and valleys of the
Riviersonderend Mountains. Today, after more than two decades of painting
professionally, Derric has developed an unmistakable, contemporary style that
celebrates southern Africa's wildlife and landscapes through a unique blend of
bold colour, abstraction and realism.
Derric's first exhibition was held in Cape Town in 1978, and was so successful
it was sold out within a few days. Since then, Derric has not looked back and
has exhibited many times in South Africa, Portugal, England, Italy and
Australia.
In 1990 Derric moved to the Overberg in the shadow of the Riviersonderend
Mountains and subsequently established his studio there. This magnificent
setting of mountains and wheat fields, ever changing with the seasons and
inhabited by a myriad of birds and wildlife, is revealed in his paintings. Van
Rensberg excels as a bird and wildlife artist but recently his impressionistic
landscapes focusing on the Overberg Mountains, wheat fields and wetlands have
drawn accolades from an ever-increasing number of collectors.
Apart from numerous solo exhibitions, Derric has been commissioned privately
and by major institutions, which include First National Bank, South African
Airways, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Reebok, Ernst & Young, BP and
Mobil. as well as a number of South Africa’s best known hotels.n
addition, Derric's paintings hang in homes and major companies in Australia,
England, Switzerland, Portugal and Germany.
