Amarildo Alberto was born in Maputo, Mozambique and
studied art at 'Escola de Artes' in that Capital. Amarildo worked as a
textile designer, before opening his own art studio, 'Phambili' in Durban,
South Africa, with fellow Mozambique artist Manuel Mangue. He has since worked
as a full time artist, successfully exhibiting in art galleries in South
Africa, Europe and Australia.
His flamboyant and vibrant large works are full of fun, energy and vitality;
his trademark being swirling figures with a dreamlike quality. Amarildo enjoys
working in different media such as soft pastel, oil pastel, oils, graphic and
wood carving prints. He describes his motivation accordingly: "I
paint the everyday life in Africa, with its joys and sorrows."
The following artworks are a representation of the Artist's body of work. A wider
selection
is available for viewing at Afrikana Gallery in South Melbourne. |
