Born in England in 1960, David Reade began working
with glass at the age of 17, under tutorage from master glassblower Michael
Harris, at Isle of Wight Studio Glass.
David makes his own clear glass, using sand from Athlone, on the Cape Flats.
All of David's work is free blown, without the use of any moulds. The shapes
of his vessels and sculptures are a visual testimony to classical glass
blowing. Yet since 1991, David's work is characterized by organic forms and
earthy tones, which are inspired by the hues and lines of the desert
landscapes of Namibia, a place he loves to visit.
David works with architects and art galleries around the world and his work
features in many private and public collections.
The following artworks are a representation of the Artist's body of work. A wider
selection
is available for viewing at Afrikana Gallery in South Melbourne. |
