Hennie Meyer is a multi award winning South African
ceramicist working in Cape Town. His work can be found in numerous private and
public collections such as the South African Cultural History Museum, King George
V Gallery, Durbanville Clay Museum and The Corobrik Collection. Interestingly,
Hennie's roots as a ceramicist can be tied back to Bendigo, Australia where he
first studied ceramics as an exchange student.
Testament to his growing international reputation, Hennie's work was recently
selected for the 2006 Ceramics Art London exhibition. High praise indeed, as
he was one of only 90 artists chosen from a field of 320 individuals from 12
different countries. This follows on from his 2005 attendance where he was one
of only two South African ceramists invited to exhibit.
Hennie predominantly works in earthenware, creating a series of pouring
vessels, plates and bowls. He enjoys the challenge of making composite shapes
and creating a balance to form an aesthetically pleasing vessel, that combines
humour and a recognisable signature style.
The following artworks are a representation of the Artist's body of work. A wider
selection
is available for viewing at Afrikana Gallery in South Melbourne. |
